Q & A
What is Soochi Glow Berry?
We formulated the first and only scientifically-backed Prejuvenation Beverage available in New Zealand.
At the heart of our formulation is 5000mg of collagen peptides, 5000mg of dietary fibre and adaptogens, with added vitamin C, beetroot, pomegranate, apples, raspberries and blackcurrants.
Soochi is made with high efficacy ingredients. Our collagen specifically is of a small molecular weight which increases absorption and bioavailability.
Fun fact: Collagen can only be absorbed when it is paired with vitamin C!
Glow Berry is powerful nutritional support for your skin, hair, nails, and digestion that is clean and free from added sugar, artificial sweeteners, dairy, gluten, soy, allergens and dyes, and we are SO PUMPED about it.
How much Glow Berry do I need to experience benefits?
We have used prebiotics and collagen which both have a lot of scientific research behind them. We wanted to make sure that Soochi had the best possible ingredients, and we certainly delivered.
Research also tells us that the amount of collagen you need may be different from someone else. In saying that, based on this research, we know that for most people, oral collagen consumption of 2500-5000 mg daily for 4-12 weeks promotes skin elasticity, hydration, and decreased fine lines and wrinkles in most people. So what have we done? We have put in 5000mg of collagen peptides per can to help you show off your best self. You’re most welcome. Therefore, we recommend you drink one can per day. Want more than that? Then you’re serious about results, and we love results! Forget a couple of days? It happens to even the best of us (putting my hand up here), just restart again, no biggie. It’s the long game we are playing here!
What can I expect after drinking?
Soochi Glow Berry is designed to unlock glowing skin and a healthy gut. You can expect results after 4 weeks of continuous use. These include; better digestion, increased skin elasticity, decrease in wrinkles/wrinkle depth, improved nail health, a decrease in cellulite, and support for normal collagen production. In saying that, the gut health element is more immediate, as this directly affects your gut flora straight away - feeding the good flora only.
On the can, it says “drink one can per day” - But can I drink more?
We know Glow Berry tastes great, and it was formulated to be enjoyed as part of your everyday routine. If you want more than one can a day, absolutely go for gold! The one can per day recommendation is the minimum recommended dose to notice benefits recorded in peer reviewed studies regarding the specific collagen peptides and prebiotics. This definitely doesn’t mean that you have to limit yourself though. Some of our customers have one with each of their meals daily!
How do I use Soochi Glow Berry?
Mornings: Caffeine alternative
Lunch: One-soda-a-day alternative
Evenings: Alcohol alternative
Exercise: Post-workout alternative
Soochi is created to be a convenient, ready-to-drink beverage that can be enjoyed on-the-go. We recommend you find the best moments and occasions to fit into your daily routine.
Glow Berry sounds like beauty in a can
We agree with you! Think of aging healthily as we shift beauty from surface routines to science-based beverages that leverage the best NZ and global ingredients that support wellness from the inside-out.
Where is Soochi made?
Here in New Zealand! We are a NZ company, we source our ingredients here, our packaging here, and also manufacture our drinks here too! We want to support NZ as much as we can.
On that note, if you’re an orchardist and have some fruit that needs to be saved, or a NZ supplier please get in touch with us so we can help reduce waste together and make amazing products.
What does it taste like?
A light and refreshing sparkling soda with hints of berries, citrus and botanics. The combination of pomegranate, raspberries and blackcurrant invigorates the taste palate, and with no added sugar it is guilt-free so you’ll be craving it daily.
Why combine collagen with berries and soda water?
Berries are full of antioxidants, and other compounds that are protective and nourishing for the whole body, including your skin. It’s this refreshing powerhouse combo that works synergistically creating the magic of our collagen beverages. Plus, it just tastes hella good!
Why do some cans of Glow Berry have sediment?
Sediment is completely safe, and will vary in amount and appearance between cans. It shows that the fruit that we use is the real deal. Think beetroot, raspberry and blackcurrants. This is full of nutrients, so make sure that you drink up every last bit!!
Why ready-to-drink collagen soda?
We understand that not everyone has the time to integrate collagen powders and supplements into other beverages such as tea and coffee. You may not even drink tea or coffee (Step out of the status quo, we say!). Soochi Glow Berry has been designed in a ready-to-drink format for convenience and consumption wherever you are, or on-the-go.
How does Soochi fit with my lifestyle?
Soochi is the ultimate wellbeing boost that is an on the go guilt free pick me up.
When you’re craving the mid morning or afternoon pick-me-up, or even a post-workout recovery drink, reach for a thirst quenching Soochi instead of an unhealthy beverage. You can also enjoy Soochi in a beauty cocktail, as it refreshingly pairs perfectly with sparkling rose, vodka, and champagne. Or simply make an occasion for Soochi and elevate your self care routine - up to you. Soochi easily fits the needs and indulgences of your lifestyle.
Can I mix this with alcohol?
Many customers have asked if this can be mixed in with alcohol and the answer is absolutely - yes! Our favourite drink that we are loving at the moment is combining equal parts sparkling rosé with chilled Glow Berry. Or try a variation on the mimosa and mix it with Champagne.
You can also use Glow Berry as a mixer with your favourite distilled spirit or botanical substitute. Stay hydrated, and drink responsibly.
Equally this is a great alcohol alternative. Take a box of Soochi to your next party if you're having a night off drinking.
Wait, PREbiotics, not PRObiotics?
That’s right. We wanted to support your own personal microflora to thrive, rather than introducing new flora (probiotics) and then the effects lasting a few hours only.
Prebiotics are the food for your good bacteria in your tummy (probiotics). The prebiotics feed the probiotics. This means that the bad bacteria are starved, and your good flora that are already established in your tummy, thrive!
How do prebiotics improve my gut health?
Essentially prebiotics help your own individual microflora thrive by feeding them, rather than trying to introduce new flora strains that can last only a few hours. This improves your gut health and if you take Glow Berry regularly, your long term gut health can improve significantly. Our specific prebiotics are in Fibersol-2™ which has lots of peer reviewed scientific journal articles.
How can prebiotics positively affect what nutrients I absorb?
Fibersol-2™ has also been shown to slow down the speed of food, so it means more time for your body to absorb nutrients from your food. Soochi Glow Berry goes one step further using prebiotics which also help decrease the uptake of sugar and fat from the diet. Also, a higher intake of our prebiotics / fibre is linked to lower body weights as Fibersol-2 is scientifically proven to reduce a rise in blood glucose levels.
Further, peer-reviewed studies published in the Journal of Nutrients determined statistical significance in the reduction of weight for overweight and obese consumers who consume these prebiotics regularly, whereas the control group increased in weight over the study period. Our prebiotics are Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) approved for two health claims; the first of which is to reduce the uptake of sugar, and second is to reduce the uptake of fat, when 5g/serve is consumed - exactly how much you will find in a can of Glow Berry.
I already take Collagen powder supplements, would I be doubling up?
Collagen is made of a specific type of protein, so if you took extra collagen, it would just add to your protein intake. So, yes, you can drink Soochi alongside taking collagen powder/supplements and we encourage you to discover the most suitable self-care ritual that is right for you. If you need any specific dietary advice, we recommend that you speak with your doctor.
What is collagen and why do we need it?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is the foundation of your skin, hair, nails, bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage... even teeth and blood vessels. So it is clear why more and more people are using collagen! — it is literally the protein that holds us together. From our late 20s, collagen starts to break down faster than it can be produced which is why our skin looks thinner. So consuming collagen regularly (like having a can of Soochi daily) is critically important to replenish/reduce the loss of collagen and nourish your body and overall well being. Plus, collagen provides a ton of beauty-boosting benefits for mood, sleep, digestive and joint health.
Will Glow Berry improve my skin health?
Uh, Yah. It’s crazy to think that collagen makes up about 70% of your skin.
VERISOL® consists of specific collagen peptides, which are really darn important for supporting skin metabolism from the inside out. There are two key visual signs you’ll notice using VERISOL® peptides, including; increased skin moisture and a reduction in the formation of wrinkles with delayed onset also.
This is a bioactive scientifically proven collagen with a specific molecular weight that ensures support for collagen replenishment within the skin.
What collagen do you use?
Bovine. Before you throw some chat out about marine - hear us out. We made sure that sustainability was at the forefront of everything we did, and we wanted to make sure we did the right thing when it came to animal welfare.
NZ collagen suppliers - get in touch with us for future collaborations please.
Hang on, I’ve been told that Marine collagen is best
Verisol is derived from type I (95%) and a little of type III (5%). One thing to note is that it is not the type of collagen that makes VERISOL© unique and effective, but instead it is its specific molecular weight size that's clinically proven to stimulate the fibroblasts in your skin and target your hair and nails as well.
Most of the research on collagen is specific to bovine peptides, so we wanted to make sure that we are using peptides that are proven to be demonstratively effective. These studies have been carried out using gold standard research techniques - double blind placebo studies.
So it's the way that the collagen is processed that matters, not where it comes from?
Exactly. The peptides are the most important part. It is the specific molecular weight and size of the peptides that make Soochi Glow Berry clinically proven to stimulate the fibroblasts in your skin as well as your hair and nails.
Let us just repeat that.
It’s not about the TYPE of collagen, but about the MOLECULAR WEIGHT that is what makes collagen effective. Ours is Type I predominantly (95%) and a sprinkling of type III (5%), which has a molecular weight of 2kDa - one of the smallest weights available!
What is the source of Soochi’s collagen?
Thanks for asking - we made sure that we sourced only the most sustainable and ethical collagen that we could find. We take pride in the quality of all our ingredients, collagen being no exception. So, we source our collagen from Gelita. Their research and development team have perfected collagen hydrolysate (the peptide form of collagen) which have been shown to be 95% bioavailable. We share the same concerns that you have regarding animal welfare and the quality of grazing conditions for cattle and this is why we have sourced beef from Germany. Being forage-based eliminates the potential use of growth hormones, antibiotics, and steroids. Due to their high quality farming methods, and rigorous testing that also sponsors and supports the German Animal Welfare Initiative which is focused on farming driving the “5 freedoms” for animal welfare needs which are:
- freedom from hunger, malnutrition and thirst
- freedom from fear and distress
- freedom from physical and thermal discomfort
- freedom from pain, injury and disease; and
- freedom to express normal patterns of behaviour
We also want you to know that not all collagen is sourced, or created equally. There are differences in the molecular size, weight and source of collagen peptides. Our collagen is 2kDa in case you were wondering, and is 95% type I.
Can men take collagen as well?
Of course - collagen makes around 70% of our skin dry weight regardless of your gender. Guys, we want you to know that EVERYTHING IN THIS CAN was designed for overall skin and gut health. Although it seems that broadly speaking, it’s more about the dry refreshing flavour that keeps you coming back for more ;)
Can it improve skin surface structure & decrease cellulite?
About 85% of the global female adult population is affected by cellulite which is literally just disturbances in the dermal matrix. Studies have shown that our VERISOL® collagen peptides directly stimulate the extracellular matrix formation in skin, reducing skin waviness, and decreasing cellulite score,
For more information, check out this study here.
Because the skin density thickens, does this mean that my wrinkles aren’t as deep?
Another study with women aged between 45 and 65 years showed that VERISOL® significantly reduced wrinkles after 4 weeks and led to significantly higher skin procollagen concentration.
For more information, check out the study here.
How long do I take Glow Berry until I notice improvements in my skin elasticity?
According to peer reviewed studies, you’ll start to notice changes in your skin elasticity in 4 weeks – up to 15% – compared to placebo treatment. This effect could be measured after just 4 weeks of having the daily dose of VERISOL®.
For more information, check out the study here.
Does Glow Berry help my hair grow too?
VERISOL® bioactive collagen peptides have been proven to increase hair thickness with a randomised placebo controlled study.
Check out the study here.
What about my nails?
We haven’t forgotten them. A study showed a decrease of cracked and/or chipped nails and increased growth speed. At the same time, there’s a notable improvement in nail peeling and a clearly decreased nail edge irregularity. Long story short, they’re smoother, stronger and grow quicker! Check out the study here.
Can I drink Soochi if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
We are so happy for you - absolute ripper!
Even though we have a raft of science behind us with the development of this drink, we can’t give you medical advice about anything, including pregnancy, and breastfeeding. So we recommend that you have a chat with your doctor and follow their advice.
Is Soochi safe for my kids to drink?
Absolutely. We love that this is a great low sugar option to the other drinks on the market. And you don’t have to tell them this, but it has 125% of their fibre RDI, and 200% of their vitamin C RDI also!
The ingredients in Soochi are safe, but again we do recommend that you consult your doctor - as every child’s nutritional needs are different.
Where else can I get collagen?
You can get collagen by eating meat, poultry, and fish. Collagen is a protein found in the connective tissue, skin, and bones of animals. There is no vegan source.
The amino acid structure of collagen protein is incredibly unique and beneficial. It is very different from eating meat as a source of protein. The most abundant amino acid in collagen is glycine (about 33%). Glycine is up to 20 times higher in collagen than in meat. Glycine is an important amino acid that not only plays a role in building new collagen/connective tissue on the inside of our bodies but also has been used to support mood, sleep, digestive and joint health. Eating a regularly cooked piece of fish, meat, or fowl will not provide you with enough collagen.
Is collagen vegan?
Actually there are currently no vegan sources of collagen on the market as collagen is part of the connective tissue, skin, and bones of animals (and us too, which is why it is so good for us!) We are huge advocates of zero waste, and using collagen is one way of achieving these goals.
How do you pronounce Soochi?
We’ve heard a few wild pronunciations thrown out there - but think Sue Cheee.
This sounds like a miracle drink
It is. Miracles happen.
Why did you decide to use cans?
Cans are very lightweight, infinitely recyclable and will not break like glass. They are one of the most sustainable forms of packaging. Cans can travel with you anywhere too - like the beach or parks where there are glass or liquor bans.
Talk me through what you’ve done to drive sustainability
I’m glad you’re interested, as we worked really hard on this in all areas of the business, not just with the product itself. Because there are so many areas, we’ll bullet point a few things that went into doing what we do.
- They are lightweight and therefore use less fuel during transport
- They don’t break when dropped so saves food waste
- They are made from recycled materials - and are infinitely recyclable
- Made here in NZ
- Protect the product so we can have a longer shelf life, meaning less food waste
No need for chilling throughout the supply chain
- To reduce the carbon emissions from energy use, We ensured that Glow Berry could be stored out of the fridge. Think: no need for refrigerated or chilled transport, no need to run massive refrigeration units for storage at the factory or at warehouses, no need for extra packaging when we post it to you, and no need for a 12 pack to take up lots of your precious fridge space either. This saves a whole lot of energy, and carbon emissions. This also means that it will stay fresh and delicious out of the fridge until you’re ready to enjoy it - at which point, we recommend you do put it in the fridge because it's best enjoyed chilled!
Manufacture our product at a shared manufacturing site
- This means we are using equipment that already exists, not making new equipment to manufacture our drinks, and saves us money too!
Support local growers
- Sourced from New Zealand where possible to support the growers and keep NZ growing, but this also reduces carbon miles as we are getting the ingredients from our backyard rather than half way across the world.
- Use waste fruit that would otherwise not be sold in the fresh fruit market due to blemishes. This helps us reduce food waste as a country
No food waste
- We order as much as we need for every batch so that there is no food waste. Let us repeat that. We have NO FOOD WASTE. Even our R&D trials are minimal and we love to drink every last sip!
Work from home
- We know that working from home means less driving/energy use at other locations, so for half the week we are working from home
- We work in a shared office space so that we share energy use with other people, rather than using more electricity, therefore reducing our carbon footprint.
